Celestun! While the the tourism promotional websites promote it as a charming fishing village, don’t don’t expect the Amalfi Coast.

There is charm, which you will find in the surrounding nature and the warmth of the people.

A group of fishermen/local residents run a cooperative called Guardianes de Dzinitun, whose mission it is to protect the environment and promote sustainable tourism in the delicate mangroves ecosystem. They have had success with their project and so, as is always the case, imitators have appeared and yet, their dedication and work has led them to be included in Lonely Planet’s entry for things to do in Celestun.

Our private excursion will take you to tour with these folks and enjoy a quiet glide along the water either in a kayak or in a poled boat, looking for birds and wildlife along the way.

This mangrove tour is an excellent option to the motorized boat version on the estuary and perfect for those looking for something a little more peaceful, all the while supporting local initiatives which is also our aim here at Lawson’s.

Our tour also contemplates a stop at the beach for a delicious shrimp cocktail breakfast overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, where you will enjoy a cold drink and dig your toes into the sand.
